Malta’s restaurants began reopening from Friday 22nd May, albeit with restrictions in place, mainly social distancing between tables and only a maximum of 6 patrons at any one table. Only table service can be provided. That means no buffet service and no sitting or standing at the bar. A waiter service has to be provided to bring the drinks to your table.
Restaurants and snack bars have to be compliant with all protocols before reopening and have to display a Compliance Sticker issued by the Malta Tourism Authority. The sticker is proof that the establishment is compliant with COVID-19 protocols and has therefore reached the highest levels of cleanliness and safety. Customers are advised to use establishments which have the sticker on display.
Smoking is also prohibited both inside and outside. Any person that wants to smoke has do so at least 10 metres away from the nearest outdoor table.
Scuba diving is now also allowed as long as there are no more than 6 people in the group and that divers use their own equipment.
